Does NYC have a main event? Specifaclly food/music related events in the summer.

The Taste isn't all too great anymore. There've been more shootings there the last few years and the price for the tiny bits of food you get is ridiculous. Chicago events I'd say happen almost daily in the Summer at Wrigley, all winter the UC is packed for the Hawks, there's the air and water show, the Fourth of July fireworks with the orchestra, Lollapalooza, skating in Millennium and Grant Park, etc.
As far as New York goes I can say Coney Island was pretty fun, minus the huge ghetto haha.
EDIT: HOW could I forget St. Patrick's Day and dying the River green!?
