hello everyone, I need to get information before making a decision to move to NYC with my family. I received an offer which is a good career move for me. We will be most likely making $200K as a combined income. Currently, we live in west palm beach FL in wellington which is known as a good suburb with good schools. I will be working in flushing Quenns and my husband most likely will be commuting to Manhattan. our housing budget is around 3K. I am looking for a sub-urb with good middle schools and 1/2 commute to manhattan.

Can you please give me some input where would be a good place to move? I found out great neck and little neck have good middle schools but I dont know if it is family oriented community? thank you!

You should ask in the Long Island forum.

Btw, a 1/2 hour will require you to live in one of the boroughs, Queens or Brooklyn. Neighborhood close to the city w/b Hunter's Point in Queens which is a modern and growing collection of new high rise apartment towers or Brooklyn Heights in Brooklyn, which is a brownstone neighborhood that is very family oriented in an urban sense.

Neither of these neigborhoods are suburban, nor is there much grass or trees, and good schoolingnwill likely require require private schools.

If you were both commuting to Manhattan, then, you could try a number of towns in Essex county, New Jersey.

Most suburban commutes require 45 to 60 minute commute.
