If you work in Manhattan i say live in harlem. Harlem have a better bus and train service. You have 4,5 & 6 train on Lexington Ave,2 &3 on lenox,The A,B,C,B,on 8 Ave,1 & 9 on Broadway And the Metro North On Park Ave plus the M60 bus to Laguardia Airport.I live in harlem for 13 Years before moving out of state.East Harlem (Spanish Harlem) is a little dicey Madison Ave has some nice Apartment building from 110 to 124 Street.Lenox also has some renavated building. In General anything west of lenox and 110 is ok.I would not venture pass 125 street.Good luck.

FDB and environs are NOT near Columbia. Can you walk there ? Sure, a long walk. But it is an entirely different area, conceptually, culturally, and in every other way.

West of St. Nicholas Park is vastly better than east Harlem.
