Can any explain the NYC Tax? Also, what areas do not have to pay this tax?

Which city is the most tax friendly?

FYI - working in Manhattan.

i don't know the tax code, but i would imagine that it would read something like...if you live within nyc city limits or do business within nyc city limits that you are subject to the nyc city tax.

NYC tax is only for NYC residents....NYS tax is for anyone working in NYS even if you live in another state.

If you live in NYC you will pay both NYC and NYS income taxes.....If you live outside of NYC but work in NYC you will not pay NYC taxes but will still pay new york state income tax (there is no avoiding this one).

Default NH VS NY Taxes

Anyone travel or live outside of NYC but work in NYC and get a W2?

I am guessing they will withhold my NYS and NYC taxes, however I could file a return and get the NYC taxes back if I work only part of the time there.

I am thinking of taking up an address in NH (no income tax), but working in Manahattan (will travel 4 days a week).

Any advice?

First, you have to PROVE to the IRS that you're a legal resident of New Hampshire. That means spending more than half of your time in New Hampshire. If you own or rent any residence in NYC, it'll be hard to convince the IRS that you're not trying to defraud them....

If you work for an employer with a work location in manhattan you must pay NYS & NYC income tax on the money earned there. There is no way to avoid it.

In fact NYS now can even tax telecommuters who telecommute by choice. Thus, if your employer is in manhattan but lets say you work in IT and can do your job from your home in New Hampshire you will still pay NYS tax without ever stepping foot in New York!! See link Small Business Blog by Janet Attard - Telecommute Tax
