I'm hoping to head into the city either this weekend or next, depending on how things pan out. I'm interested in visiting Brooklyn Brewery which the maps say is in Greenpoint. It's on N 11th Street. Does anyone know this area atall? I'm only planning on spending a few hours in the afternoon there, should I be worried about safety? Might sound like a ridiculous question to someone who knows this area, but this is the first time I've been in Brooklyn. It's the only boro I haven't been to yet & I'm interested in visiting the brewery and maybe going someplace else afterwards.

Thanks for the feedback!
It's Williamsburg. My friend lives one block away. I don't really think of it as unsafe at all, unless you are worried that you are going to be run down by a herd of hipsters.
That's actually Williamsburg, but both are pretty similar and you'll be close to Greenpoint. It's a nice area, leaps and bounds compared to what it used to be, very expensive though.
In case you wanted to know what Greenpoint smelled like in the 1860s, according to Art collective recreates the sights — and smells — of old Greenpoint, "Wooden smell boxes individually filled with horse manure, tar, spices and coal are just one reason to visit the “Monitor 1861”, an outdoor installation in McGolrick Park that will re-create the experience of walking through Greenpoint in the 19th century."
When did the North streets become Williamsburg? I know the hipsters call it that...but come on, they haven't become either New Yorkers or Brooklynites yet. North 11 is Greenpoint.
No matter which neighborhood you assign it to the main point is it is safe to go there any time of day. The waterfront redevelopment in that area has changed the neighborhood and now it is 100% gentrified.
To be fair, even the Brewery itself describes their location as Williamsburg.. but either way, it's easy to get to and it's in a safe area which I think was OP's main concern.
