I worked at McDonald's in high school and a customer won one of the big prizes at our location. People do actually win, but there are a set amount of winners for each prize just like any other contest.
I'm gonna go on a limb and say they don't send a winning set of games pieces to the same region.. Your winning piece is probably on the other side of the country
A few years ago I was collecting these pieces and literally missed 1 game piece from each spot. I filled up everything but the winning piece. I never won a damn thing! But I love McDonalds so I ate well.
There are three pieces to each set in monopoly right? Two of the three are put out in ridiculous numbers. ANYONE and EVERYONE who eats at Mcdonald's regularly will get those TWO pieces. Then McDonald's puts out a certain number of the third one based on how many prizes they want to give out for each level. Its an easy concept. If you get two of any set/every set, you are no closer to winning than anyone else, because those two are not the intended winning pieces. Its just like when you scratch a scratch-off lotto ticket. If you have two $1000 symbols show up, you are no closer to winning $1000 than the Lotto wanted you to be. It means nothing.
I'm seriously surprised that this concept fools a lot of people...
Isn't it possible that with enough time you could essentially get every game piece? I remember when they first started doing the online entry you would go to the website and type in your code on the piece, and when I would enter in mine it would say that it was already entered, even though I just got it... 5 minutes prior.

I guess with enough time, money, and calories spent lol So here is an update! I just bought 1 Medium sized sweet tea (since I packed my lunch today) and peeled off:
1) Marvin Gardens- yellow
2) Electric Company
For the bolded item, all I need is the Water Works match and that is a $10,000 gain. The thing is, it's supposed to be used for your 'bills' only so I need to read the fine print.
If someone with Water Works wanted to join forces I'm cool with splitting the prize 50/50 and gaining just $5,000. I wonder if student loan 'bills' count or if they simply mean water, electric, cable, etc. Either way, I'm loving this game already haha
For the record- the 'rare' winning pieces are all you need to win- and have such contact information how to redeem the prize on them. The other non-winning stamps have no actual use or value. Redemption only requires the winner piece.
