My coworker is running this year. He is so excited. He's been training quite a bit, although he's always been a runner. His last "big" run before taking it a bit easy the last week before the race was from his place in Queens to the Verrazano Bridge. Also, I think it's new this year where you can track the runners online or through the ING smartphone app. If you have their number, you can check in to see where they are in the race. They're lucky it's this weekend and not last weekend!!
There's actually four people I know running, but this time it's someone who I'm really good friends with. I was looking today and it seems that being from Queens, Long Island City is the best spot for me to watch my friend come by.
I always watch not without a twinge of envy. I stand in awe of the large numbers of people who can muster the incredible dedication to train so long and hard for something that rewards only on the most personal level. Often a tear or two rolls down my cheek.
I wish I could have done it once but the knees always said a very loud piercing NO every time I started training!
