Hi,

A hypothetical question:

Let's say you find an apartment/condo/townhouse in a perfect (perfect for you) neighborhood for a lot less price than your max budget. But alas! It is on XXth floor with no elevator.

Obviously, if it's on the 2nd floor (or maybe 3rd), most people would have no problem, but if it's on the 4th floor, probably less people would go for it.

How high would you go to live in a perfect (again, perfect for you) neighborhood? I know there is no such thing as 10 story walk up building, but if you could live in your dream neighborhood (whatever it may be) for the money you can very well afford, would you go as high as 10th floor unit?

Atsushi

Default unless your young and in shape.....

Lemmie tell you that walking up 6 flights gets old fast.
Real fast.
Also...it's gonna cost more to move your furniture up all those stairs.
Gone are the days of just running to the corner to get a quick loaf of bread--you ain't gonna do it.

Your friends aren't gonna come around as frequently.
Even the super of the building is gonna be pissed every time you call him for a clogged terlet bowl.

Forget about going out and getting drunk and trying to just plop in your bed.
Now you gotta climb a mountain just to get to your apt.

Enjoy carrying all your weekly groceries up there.
Get ready to give your cat to a friend because lugging a 30 pound crate of cat littler every month is gonna kill you.
F O R G E T IT!
I just Googled 6 floor walk up and lookie lookie what I found:

Jesus, you people are lazy. More flights of stairs means you'll be healthier; and in this scenario, it's an otherwise perfect apartment. I would do it, without a doubt.

Really? Sixth floor?

Of course, if I was in my 20's, I would do that in a second.

You don't have to scale the building, just climb stairs. So unless you're crippled, or old and infirm, laziness would be the only reason to not take the place.

Call me lazy..... anything above 2nd floor and I'm out! LOL!! I don't even want the 2nd floor.... Give me the 27th floor in an elevator high-rise and I'm happy!

I lived on the 4th Floor of a walkup for a couple years. It's a great alternative to the gym But I didn't mind it. The worst part was if I was coming back from a trip - lugging my luggage up the stairs

LOL... gotta agree with the rest of the people though... I dont know if you've ever lived in the sixth floor of a building that has no elevator but having a friend of mine who lives in the 5th floor of a walk-up it definitely makes me think twice before I go to his place... I think that if you have never done it you really aren't equipped to call anyone lazy...
