Possibly. Actually, definitely. The freeze pretty much starts in the midst of January, then it snows massively.

I moved from NYC in March but am coming back mid January for Cod fishing in Mass.
You haven't lived til you've been 20 miles out at 3am in 12 degrees while snowing with a nice steady 6-8 foot sea rolling over the bow for 14 hours straight.

Last year was bad, but I expect this year to be even worse for some reason. Maybe because we've already gotten snow and it's barely November!

If I had to guess winter will be pretty harsh this year. But then again weather overall has been very unpredictable this year.
