Did a 1 day trip to NYC this past Saturday. First time to New York; very fun experience. Unfortunately, my older two daughters did not get to see the 5th Avenue lights, the Rockefeller tree, etc (they were with another group, that stayed in an indoor mall almost the entire time!), so we're gonna go back before the season is over.
The only days available to go is the week after Christmas. Was thinking of going up Tues, 12/27 & Wed 12/28. How will the crowds be? This past Saturday was pretty intense...esp along 5th Ave leading to the Rockefeller tree. Will the crowds thin a bit since it's after Christmas or does it actually pick up?
I think it's actually worse in the week between Christmas and New Year's.
Can't believe the kids came to NYC and spent the whole time at an indoor mall That's sick. They could have just gone to some DC suburban mall.
More crowded? Ugh...even if it's a weekday opposed to a weekend?
Yes, pretty PO'd that they missed it all. Now, I feel like a second trip is necessary for them to see everything. They wanted to hang with their friends as opposed to with their parents and this is the result. Won't make that mistake again. I'm still pretty shocked they missed it too!
Well, after Christmas is my only option, so I'll have to (try to) grin and bear it.
The crowds don't thin out until after January 2nd. The week between Christmas and New Years is insane. 5th Avenue from Rock Center to Central Park is jammed with people. Times Square is also jammed as is the Herald Square area. (I know other parts are jammed, too, but these come to mind first).
It's definitely worse. The kids are all off from school. The museums are unbelievably crowded. It's wall to wall people in midtown. And then there are the thousands coming to Times Square for New Year's Eve. Expect long lines and the need for extra time to get around.
Yeah, it is so much worse because it's 3-4 days before New Years, the average time people stay before all leaving on the 2nd. I'M actually thinking about leaving town during that time just to avoid the invasion of tourists.
It's crowded as well during that time. But the partying does make up for it.
