HELP! Got an eviction notice in the mail on Friday the 23rd

To be fair everyone goes through a tough time, and a reasonable LL should know that and work with a good tenant. However if you were never a good tenant, paid late, or otherwise causing headaches/problems for neighbors or the LL, there is no interest in working with you.

I have no problem working with a good tenant who is going through a tough time, so long as they are legitimately trying to get work/be responsible. If you say you have no money for rent, but you still have your $100 cell phone, taking cabs wherever you go, and have shopping bags from Macy's...that shows me you are either lieing or incapable of being responsible and I won't work with you.

Knowing your situation and being honest with yourself and your LL is the only way to go...communication is key and a good LL will work with a good tenant in general. However, some LLs just don't have the bankroll to subsidize you until whenever it is you can get back on your feet...so keep that in mind. Working with you does not equal no rent until whenever it is you get a job again....I think 3 months is my limit...some LLs can't hold out that long.

To the original OP, It sounds like a difficult time you are going through. if you fell down and are working to pick yourself back up, This is great.

For some other posters, People fall on hard times. It's a bit much with the flaming. Don't the C-D rules encourage us to play nice? And how do we assume this person is a loser right off the bat??
