Given that the 26 states that ended federal UI benefits early so no appreciable difference in their unemployment numbers than the ones that didn't, I think they're in for a rude awakening.

It isn't just that, but a whole host of other bits thrown in as well.

Many people who formerly were employed in hospitality have picked up and moved. Others out of necessity or whatever have either gone into other careers, or maybe started a business of their own. The scores if not hundreds of illegals that once were easy pickings for restaurants have discovered they can do Door Dash, construction, set up their own business (food truck, floor waxing, janitorial, etc....) and not go back to restaurant work.

Every sort of business or company needs to make up their minds to fact things are probably never going back to pre-covid days. Well not 100% anyway at least.

Even offices are fighting an often losing battle against WFH demands as employees are often threatening to go elsewhere if forced to return to 40 hour/five days a week in office model.

As it relates to hospitality and others so eager to get those thrown off UI as new hires, some need to think long and hard. Can think of nothing worse than having some passive aggressive employee who is only showing up because they need a paycheck.

Yes, places can always terminate employees, but where are they going to find a replacement?

Personally don't think the well is deep as many would seem to believe. Many sort of jobs that are wanting for employees require certain skill sets and training. Even being just a waiter or server does require a certain skill set and talents. One waiter with an attitude can throw off many customers who may never return.

Will they need the same staffing they had pre-Covid? Its not like they can serve as many people as pre-Covid.

Restaurants dependent upon tourists for business are likely done for awhile with the vaccine mandate. Workers aren't dumb. They won't be applying to those types of places for sure.

There's going to be a lag before people go broke and they realize they have to work to feed themselves. Especially the deadbeats not paying rent, they have a big cushion of cash to tide them over until reality sets in like with everybody else not freeloading

Cushion of cash? I agree with everything else you said but the reality is most people spend money as fast as they receive it. The USA is built on live today worry tomorrow in a consumer credit driven economy.

Not true!

Know people with five, six, seven or more large sitting in bank.

They haven't paid rent in many months, but those checks kept rolling in. Heck some haven't paid ultiliees either because they can't be shut off until after 1 January 2022

Oh and don't forget those with kids have been getting checks, and that will continue until January or something.

It takes way longer than a few months to see changes from this.

Used more as an excuse. Very few who actually are fearful.

lol
You think people who worked minimum wage jobs before are all.of a sudden "opening businesses"?

The biggest impediment will be that those who haven't worked in over a year will find it very hard to get back to work. Work is a grind. The motivation won't be there and these people.didnt have much motivation to begin with (hence the minimum wage work).

Look at England or the welfare class in NYC. People get used to the dole and find it very hard to find the motivation to get off.
