I will be looking for an apartment, and would like a neighborhood that is attracts single and creative types.

I would prefer a doorman building. Not interested in residential areas.

Ideally, I would like to return to Manhattan,so I guess I am looking for a neighborhood in Brooklyn or Queens that has a Manhattan flavor.

I have been researching Carroll Gardens,Cobble Hill,Brooklyn Heights, Long Island City.

I currently live in Forest Hills, but find that the buildings cater more to families and kids.

I welcome your suggestions about the neighborhoods and specific buildings.

Court street, and parallel to it Smith Street, everything you need.

Those neighborhoods are ALL residential with the exception of Long Island City, and none I would consider Manhattan like. Also, they are full of families as is virtually everywhere in NYC.

If what you want is a post college dorm environment, I suggest either Hunters Point in Queens and/or just over the bridge in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Both are ex-industrial areas taken over by the young yuppie and hipster crowds, respectively.

Also, any number of apartment towers located in and around 86th St and Lexington Ave. in Manhattan, Greenpoint, Brooklyn.

I would also suggest Astoria in Queens as well as Park Slope in Brooklyn.
