In "Annie Hall," Woody Allen says that he hopes he'll age gracefully and not become like one of those crazy old men roaming in Greenwich Village, carrying shopping bags and ranting and raving about socialism. I often get the impression that the frenzied commenters on this forum probably do the same yelling on the subway or the bus. Or maybe their rants are so extreme precisely because they're stay-at-home weirdos who do nothing but click on keyboards? Ian Frazier did comment that those stay-at-homes are actually doing everybody else a favor because if those hordes actually went out of their apartments (probably crammed with hoarded stuff), the city's infrastructure would collapse.

That's an interesting idea, although I have to say as a former conductor on the subway, I got exactly the opposite impression. The ones who rant and rave on the computer aren't the ones we see and hear on the trains.
