I bought an open box computer over the phone Friday afternoon and it hasn't been shipped yet. Is this normal for them?

J&R is usually pretty reliable when it comes to shipping, but the customer service people can probably track it down for you with an estimated shipping date. I've never had an issue with them, even when I went to the store to pick up an in stock computer, only to find the color I wanted was in the warehouse. They received it the next day, and called to let me know it was in stock, so then I could easily pick it up.

I'd give them a call, because it could be the case where your open stock item had to be sent back to the warehouse for shipping, or something like that, if it was not in the shipping location with the boxes in stock, etc. They should be able to track the package for you, even if it has not yet left their shipping department, as not everything is in stock in the basement at the store.

Thanks!

I got email confirmation of my shipment about an hour after I posted this. I'm just surprised that it took five days to ship a product they had in stock. I'm not complaining. The prices are GREAT. Definitely worth any slight delays.

Try returning something. Your feelings about the store may change dramatically.

I hate the place, I hate their surly clerks. It is good for a browse as long as you don't actually buy anything.

I've had great experiences with J&R over the years. The managers I've dealt with have always been fair, and I've had several go out of their way for me. I would much rather give them my business than Best Buy or other 'big box' stores that do nothing for the community.

I've only bought small items but found the store to be fine. I like supporting NYC business, and usually their staff is friendly and helpful. The only clerks I find surly are the cashiers who really seem to hate their simple job.

I have never experienced a rude clerk at J&R, either, save for the ladies who validate parking, not that they are rude. Good grief...I think that the system was devised by the IRS and the DMV combined, as it takes forever to validate a ticket, but I am sure it serves a purpose within the organization. I am surprised they don't have to send the ticket and all receipts through pneumatic tube to the central office for validation. I'd better quit while I am ahead, lest I find that to be the policy the next time I need a validation. But in the computer, camera, television, and housewares departments, I've met clerks who may not engage in the finer points of conversation, yet are pleasant and know what they are selling; i.e., they don't just scan boxes at a register like some big box electronics retailers, but can actually recommend options within a given product range.

For most anything that J&R sells, I would buy cheaper at Tiger Direct.
