Yeah, it seems every time I walk from 8th Ave over to Pier 90 (maybe once or twice a year), I see a fair amount of sketchiness in the area. That would be right around 49th and 50th St. on the west side. I haven't been for about 6 months, but I do notice it every time I go.

West Midtown is improving slowly. 6th Avenue in the 30's has *really* improved with new buildings going up, which is helping the area shed those dark, dated buildings that make the area feel even dirtier than it is. Am in agreement about 8th Avenue though. Still struggling to shed its sketchy image from above 34th to around the 50s.

Im telling you......8th Ave sucks south of MSG......and 2nd Ave on the East Side is crap as well between Bellevue and NYCHA. It's weird but yeah u kinda gotta be alert in Midtown. And people always ask why is the crime so high there, its not just the transients man. Keep letting these people write the script......

I agree with 1st between PCV and Bellevue, 2nd is okay. The Kips Bay towers are a little sketchy especially now with Gristedes gone but it's okay.

Once you get into Chelsea on 8th it's not bad, even where the projects are. The far west side around the Lincoln Tunnel entrances are still just empty and weird at night.

South of MSG? It's just Tourist Hell until you get to the Penn South coop, which is fine. Do you mean the touristy part? That extends north at least to 48th or so.

North of 34th Street is crappy too. Eighth Avenue is tourist hell during the day and then all the mentally ill homeless come out at night
