Police don't "honor" them if you are not a police officer, it doesn't do anything but take up space in your wallet.

Stop being used as a pawn to further fuel the resentment of citizen to police and police to citizen. There is no "they" or "them", they're just people like you doing a job for a salary.

If you have an issue with some laws or all laws write a letter to the legislative body of government, you know the people who actually pen the laws you complain about being fined over.
How about decisions and policies made by law enforcement agencies, like setting up speed traps, stop-and-frisk, etc.? Then what? You'll probably never see your day in the supreme court unless you've actually broken some law or other in the first place. And no, police and firefighters and sailors and soldiers are not like me, they operate under a very different command structure at their jobs. In the case of cops, good people are sometimes ordered to do some pretty dickish things.

Whether I've done anything illegal or not, my desire when detained is to end the hassle and get on with my life with my liberty and wallet unscathed. And I'd use every trick I had up my sleeve to further that end.

There's quite an extensive case law history regarding checkpoints, speed traps, street encounters (stop and frisk), etc, including SCOTUS cases. Check them out, many are very interesting.

Cops cause a lot of their own problems, but the public at large is not generally educated as to what court decisions allow police officers to do. It's very easy to scream about your "rights" when you don't actually know anything about them. For example, its still commonly believed that undercover and plain clothes cops must tell someone they are cops if asked. That's such nonsense its almost laughable. Street encounters (stop and frisk) alone have a case law history that could keep a person reading for months on end.

This is always pretty hilarious. My girlfriend is an attorney and every now and then gets a client who has a defense of, "Well I asked hiim if he was a cop and he said no! They like, can't do that man!"
