I'm entertaining a job offer out in Melville NY but, I have 0 interest in living out there. I'm currently living in a Jersey suburb and, I really want a change. I'm 23, male, single and, I'd like to surround myself with other young people, in a fun, urban community, for a few years.
Since I don't want a suburban life, I'd like to seriously consider the more vibrant parts of Queens, specifically those that are close to highways. LIC, Sunnyside and other communities along the 7 line have been recommended but, I'd like to hear form people who actually take the LIE, in the morning, heading east out of the city. Do you think such a commute can be consistently done in ~40 minutes, maximum during typical work hours (~8-5)? How is the traffic at major junctions? From searches, I see that some on this forum do it but, I've heard conflicting accounts about how much time it takes to get there. I'd love to hear from someone who lives really close to the LIE.
