Hello,

I'll be moving to NYC this Summer and I'm in the tough process of narrowing down the places that I can afford.

I have seen some information about rental prices and neighborhoods but the posts seem to be outdated. I wanted to have more recent opinions.

My wife and I will be working in complete opposite sides (Uptown & Downtown). We understand that this is going to be tough so we would like a place that is equidistant to both locations and that would require about 1 hr commute for each of us.

The goal is to find a place with 1 Bedroom and 1 Bathroom for around $1800-2000 including utilities (Heat, Gas, Electricity)

Preferably the area should be rather safe as we are both expecting to get home late from work at any point.

While we know it's hard for all these desired attributes to exist, we will welcome any neighborhood suggestions ( and maybe specific areas of neighborhoods) that meet the criteria.

I thank you in advance for your Help!

$2000 for 1-br. You can live in Upper East Side if you know where to look.

Astoria or Sunnyside, Queens.

Also, it's highly unlikely that your rent will include electricity. If you meant that your budget for rental is $1800-$2000 including the electricity cost and that you know you will pay a separate bill for it, that brings your rental range down to approx. $1700 - $1900.

I'll second this.

I might even throw LIC in the mix.
