Hello!

I have a smallish common area in my manhattan apartment and I want to put something like a desk + a couch or something in there.

This area is also a main walkway and there is about 6 feet of free space from wall to wall.

So I need something crafty, not large, but useful.

I can probably go UP but not out far, as things will take up the walkway

So, somehow, lets fit in a desk and a couch! (for at least 2 people)

seen anything crafty at ikea or around the city that will fulfill this?

Does the walkway go to another LIVING SPACE with seating, TV, stereo, etc. or is this all of it.

What is the long dimension of useable space...to the near edge of the window?

Why TWO radiators???? Weird.

Is the desk-to-be going to be used for eating as well?

How high is UP?

There are some computer carts on the market that are small and go upward, sort of like a sculptural tree if you want a desk for your computer. A desk for productivity, you might look to a smaller laptop desk.

Jennifer Convertibles, or another similar store, might have something designed for NY apartments with respect to seating, as opposed to something custom.

Check the Container Store, they have a lot of nice configurations on their website with Elfa, making use of small spaces. I've managed to make an office space out of an area about that size, so it is possible.

Also check Ikea for options as well.

Half round table or rectangle, attached to the wall with hinges with a swing out leg to hold it when you open it. Get some folding wood chairs or use the chairs in the area with the sofa.

Examples:

Simple solution and you keep most of the 6" width when it is folded down

Let me see if I can find the smallest loveseat that I have found and am still considering.
Be back in a minute.

Boss Office Products 47" Classic Traditional Loveseat in Mahogany | CSN Sofas

I've seen the sofa version in person and it is very nice looking in spite of the low price. I have NEVER found anything that will fit 2 people that is smaller and I have been looking high and low.
