I will be relocating from South florida to New York City in a month or so, and would like to gather some information about the Brooklyn area. I am looking to live in a residential area in brooklyn- somewhere quiet, safe, near public transportation. My budget is 1050 monthly, and am interested in renting a 1 bedroom / 1 bathroom. What areas would one suggest? If someone could provide any rental units currently available for renting- that would be awesome.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
A one bedroom that is quiet, safe and close to public transportation in Brooklyn is going to cost you more than $1050 I'm afraid--unless you are willing to have a roommate. You should take a look at craigslist or streeteasy.com and you'll get an idea of what people are paying. (It's a lot.)
You seem to be approaching this from the standpoint that since you have money to spend that people should be approaching *you* with available units. That's not the way it works here due to a very low vacancy rate. There is massive competition for decent, well priced apartments anywhere in the city.
I think it will be easier to find a studio for 1k but you might get lucky if you look hard enough, espcially if you focus your search on private family houses where you can get more bang for your buck.
I would suggest you look around Bensonhursts and Bay Ridge.
you might also get more opntions if you expand your criteria to other boros such as Queens and the Bronx.
Are you moving because of your job? If so, do they provide any relocation assistance?
Brooklyn is a big place. But your budget is very low. Are you open to living with roommates?
Yes, I accepted a job in city and no they do not provide relocation assistance. After viewing craigslist I shocked at the rental prices. Here in south florida I am currently paying $850 for a 1bedroom apartment.
I am not interested in living with roommates, do not feel comfortable living with individuals I don't know.
Be prepared for a long commute if that is your budget. Any area that will be that cheap will be at least 45 mins from Manhattan.
I would suggest the Bronx or Queens, you might have better luck. Maybe even New Jersey.
Brooklyn is only hyped up because it's become the alternative to Manhattan, BUT because of that rents are going up in a lot of areas, even the crappy ones.
