I'm getting my BBA in Finance and Information Technology and I go to the University of Georgia. I have a GPA of 3.7 with no internship or work experience. I'd really like to work in NYC once I graduate. How would I go about doing this since I live in Georgia and most employers in NYC won't even look at out of state residents?

With the economy being the way it is it's hard for anyone to get a job, but I would definitely send out resumes and hope for the best. If nothing pans out that way try to ind a company local to you that has offices in NYC and transfer after one year. It can't hurt to try you never know!

Have you ever even visited NYC?

With no work experience, I think that nycgirl has the best suggestion for you. Try to find a company local to you with offices in NYC and try for a transfer. Even if you don't get a transfer, you'll at least build some valuable work experience.

Most people competing for those jobs here right now are not only local, but also have internship experiences with NYC companies.

Yes, I actually used to live there and even had a part time job at a restaurant in times square.

I have 10,000 saved in my savings. I was hoping to just set aside 5000 for a month or two and stay at a cheap sublet while looking for a job. Sound like a good idea? I really don't want to be in the South. (No offense to southerners)

The economy is pretty bad especially for business and finance jobs. It could easily take you a year to gain employment. My cousin who used to work for a big financial company in midtown says that because the job market is so tight that they go through the piles of resumes and trash those not from ivy league schools because they can. The other half is also if u know someone to get you in. There are so many companies with offices in NYC there's bound to be one near you to get your foot in the door. A year goes so fast you will be here and with more time to save you will have better options for when you arrive.
