What are you supposed to do? What if you're on the 50th floor of a glass skyscraper? My building has safety drills and preparedness plans for all sorts of calamities, but not a tornado.

Go to the center most point of the building away from windows. Preferably a bathroom. If you want to talk about screwed where im from tornados are known to hit yet many new houses don't have basements. Time to die!

Damage wise, it would be similar to Atlanta...shattered windows, downed trees, lights, etc. And if I recall recently a tornado did strike down in one of the outer boroughs.

There was a tornado watch in place on Wednesday afternoon and some hit the outer boroughs last year. I don't think it's a huge risk, but most people don't associate tornados with New York.

A tornado hitting manhattan would be the coolest thing ever. I can imagine all the transplants from the midwest saying stuff like oh geez not again, I escaaped the midwest to nyc because of these tornados. I can imagine a funnel half mile wide forming over central park and the just destroying everything in its wake.

what about that tornado thing is brooklyn last year? I say 'thing' because I'm not sure if it was a full blown tornado but trees came down and the whole thing was kinda dramatic.
Basically, get away from windows and, if you can, into a low floor of a low building.
