I am going to be a freshman in college next school year and will be going to St. John's University in Queens.

How is the STJ as a school and how is the area around it? And it is respected in NYC?

Also, I am going to STJ because it is offering me over $20K off per year, do you think I will be looked down upon b/c I went to STJ?

The area around the school is fine. Its located in Jamaica Estates which is a surburbany type neighborhood. Though I think they have recently expanded into Manhattan as well.

As for academics, all I can say is I've heard good things about its Law, Pharmacy, and Education schools. I also know its known for its Sports teams (mainly basketball).

Overall, I think most in New York see it as more of 'local' university. Not really nationally known but I think the school in recent years has been trying to change that image. The school seems well-connected too, career wise. Some of my friends have nice jobs that they got from going through the career initiatives there. It takes alot of people though, so I'm sure there's a bunch of people who go and don't take it seriously too.

In any case, the only person who can really know if its good for you, is you.
