We are traveling to NYC for the Macy's parade but leaving for the airport immediately following the parade. We are staying at the Waldorf Astoria on the east side of the parade route. Our plan is to watch the parade, proceed back to the hotel, retrieve our bags and head to the airport for a 4:00 PM flight. The parade begins at 9:00 AM and ends at 12:00 PM. How is traffic after the parade? Should we have problems getting out of town and to the airport? Is this a feasible plan? Thanks in advance for your help.

From what I have read, if we watch the parade from the central park area it will end by 10:30 AM. If we make it back to the hotel by around 11 AM, it will give us roughly 4 hours to get to the airport. Will it really take that long to get to the airport?

It's not that bad on the East side, where you're staying. Plan on walking across Central Park to get to and from the parade, however. You'll have plenty of time.

As the parade leaves certain parts of the city, more people will be leaving.

And you have to remember, people will be going out to places, and will be driving on the highways to get there.

It's really NOT THAT BAD. I've lived here my whole life and have traveled to family ON THANKSGIVING, AFTER the parade and it's NOT awful. You will have plenty of time.
