I don't get why. It should work anywhere. I just signed up for the NY Ezpass.
Of course the EZPass works, you just don't get the same discounts depending on which location issued your EZPass.
I'll say it again:
Only NJ-issued EZPasses get the Turnpike EZPass discount. All others pay the cash rates. Only NY-issued EZPasses get the Thruway EZPass discount, all others pay the cash rate.
I have a NJ EZ, and the good thing is the 3x a month SI/NJ bridge package for $15. Bad news is that nj jerks me around with the replenish amount, sometimes as low as $20, but sometimes they jack it up to $70 if I happen to go back and forth several times in a short stretch of days. Does NY do that? Also thinking maybe the best bet is have one of each. The SI package is great, but I don't get much of a discount on the VERR that I can see. I have been doing one-time payments in advance of travel so it doesn't trigger the replenish threshold. Was bummed this winter when I had no work, and more money in my EZ than my checking account...Any thoughts?
Not sure if this helps but a Staten Island NY EZPASS offers a substantial discount on the Verrazano Bridge.
Only if you are an SI resident and they require proof in person when applying.
