Probably because there are few, if any, vets that just specialize in cats. Most vets do both cats and dogs.

I don't go to either of them so you might want to Yelp for reviews...

I know you said you found one. But if you are in Queens, and aren't happy with the one you found--my Vet is wonderful! I can't recommend them enough.
It's the Bellerose Animal Hospital. Although all the vets are great, ask for Dr. Hernandez--she's so sweet and gentle.

For feline teeth cleanings, "dentistries" as they are called, the Humane Society is by far the cheapest option. The doctors there are excellent.

There is sometimes a wait for appointments, and you must pay for the visit or procedure in advance. You cannot cancel. They were forced to do this because people made appointments and did not show up, which was terrible for people who needed but could not get appointments.
