?I am a 27 year old single male from central Florida and plan too move to new york city in December. I have been there plenty of times even lived there but I am not ready to live on my own. I have been searching online and cant seem to find a reliable website. Does anybody know any good websites besides Craigslist too find a roommate for six months to a year?

Honestly, Craigslist is the most efficient. I've tried roommates.com, roomster, a few other ones but the big problem is lack of traffic. Most people seem to use Craigslist, so while there may be more eccentric characters there, its only because there are more people on there, period.

Also, not being here physically to seal a roommate deal puts you at a disadvantage. Most people won't be comfortable without meeting you and getting some sort of deposit first.

Try meetup.com and type in "roommates" lots of people/bars/organizations host happy hours or dinners to meet people who need roommates. Like speed dating, but for living situations.

Good luck with that. Finding a reliable potential room mate on the web is a bigtime gamble. Kinda like buying fruit, but with potentially much more dire consequences!
