Warm weather predicted. I would keep my family away from fairs that are filled with smelly and dirty people. Tourists from Europe never wear any deodorants. It will be packed and requires brushing through sweaty people. All fairs in NYC are the same, same food and same stuff.
So, since last week being the one mile Third Avenue fair (from 66th to 86th.) I thought we might be safe taking the bus up Third Avenue from Cooper Union to 91st Street.
But NOOOO, they had another Third Avenue street fair/traffic jam from 23rd to 34th. Since all Northbound traffic had to route over to First and then back to Third, the heavy traffic was a nightmare of crawling inch by inch.
It took more than 90 minutes for the trip.
I SWORE that I would not do a North South route by bus on weekends anymore until the first frost but I committed perjury and paid the heavy price on an endlessly lurching bus.
And it was SO stupid because I was right near Astor Place and the subway would have been so handy.

Bah, Humbug.
How much money (net, after additional expenses for police and sanitation) can the city make on these stupid street fairs? And it's the same vendors selling the same crap in each one. The belt guy. The sausage guy. The zeppoli guy. The smoothie guy. I bet the people who live on Third Avenue between 23rd and 34th street made sure to be somewhere else during the "festivities."

That's a good question Ruby? Does anyone know what these vendor consortiums PAY the City. Does it even cover the cost of the increased police presence?
