Hello all,
I took the NYPD SSA (School Safety Agent) exam # 1317 (Oct 2010) and I scored a 91 on it. They never mailed me a letter but I called the DCAS number and I received my list # which is 17*. I have a few friends who are SSA's but they took the test and went through the process 4-5 years ago. They told me that the process was quicker and they got called within a year after taking the exam. But they don't know how the process is now since it's been so long.
Is there a hold on the hiring process now?
The reason I ask because during the time I took the SSA exam I just landed a new job so I figured I will work this job until NYPD call me or will stay to see if I like it. But now I feel my job sucks because there's really no room for growth, the benefits sucks because we pay out of pocket for almost everything and its like these private companies aren't steady. I received my yearly raise for the second time and again it was basically next to nothing. Every job isn't perfect but at least with a city job you get better benefits and raises. So if I get the job as a SSA agent at least I can work while going back to school for two more years at the same time because they have better hours. Also even if it's hard to find a job after graduation at least I still have a steady good paying job.
I was wondering if I should find another job until SSA call me to start the process? How long does the hiring process take? Oct will be 2 years since I took the test.

I didn't get my official results and list number until about a year later. You will most likely get your list number next Feb or March.

You can call the DCAS number (212) 669-1357 . Its an automated system that tells you your exam results and list info. As for now I was told that it now takes almost two years after you take the exam (and pass) for them to call you to start the interview process. Being that you took yours this Jan you still have a long wait. I took mine Oct 2010 and still haven't been called yet. Most likely I will hear from them in this Oct or Nov. You will most likely hear from them next year sometime.

Hey, I took the test at the end of December 2011. I got my letter today 06.26.12 with my list number and score. My list number is 334, how long is the process? and what's the next step in the process? It's it similar to NYPD or do they call you in for an interview first then go through the medical, psychological, and physical?
