Aside from couch surfing, you can catch the bus to the subway, head in to Manhattan and stay at a hostel for around $40 a night, that is the cheapest route I have found. You just have to allow time for commuting, so you won't get that much sleep, but it is do able.

Agreed. Aside from crashing on a couch for a night the only other places you can sleep for free would be in those not meant as an accommodation for people. Spring the $40 for a hostel. Do you really want to sleep out in the open and vulnerable like that to save a few bucks?

Maybe there's a YMCA or a place for homeless people where I can find a bed?
Don't care too much, just wanna get away from the crowds at the airport.
Cheers

A shelter isn't realistic at all. You'll need to be processed into a shelter and I'm fairly sure the staff will recognize quickly that you aren't really homeless and are just looking for a place to crash. Anyway, the shelters are filled with mentally I'll, drug addicted people and they are not pleasant places.
But hey, if you think we're all just close minded then by all means try out a shelter and prove us wrong. If I were in your situation though I'd just sleep at the airport. Parts of JFK are fairly dead at night and I've seen many people sleeping there.

The original poster hasn't posted to this thread in three days. It's a good bet we're talking to ourselves here.

Yeah I'm back, I've read all of your posts and I'm thanking you for taking the time to answer.
It sounds like it'll be fine to sleep at JFK, so that's probably what I'm going to do.
