I would like to know if anyone goes or has gone to Berkeley College in Midtown Manhattan and if you do or have...how did you manage to do it? As in housing, since the college itself has no dorms.
My Situation: I'm going to be starting college in the fall, hopefully working to get an MBA and am thinking that NYC would be a wonderful place to be, with endless oppurtunity. (Is my thinking correct?) However, at the same time i am some 700 miles away, young, and although extremely independent, think that I may be in over my head.
Overall, is NYC a student friendly atmosphere and can you actually find a studio "closet" apartment in Manhattan? I have always been thrilled by the thought of urban living and want to see if it is truly and honeslty realistic.
Look around for posts about Washington Heights on this forum, its probably the largest Dominican neighborhood in the country.
Generally anything in Manhattan above 110th on the West side and 96th on the East side is considered undesirable. All of these areas outside of Northern Manhattan usually cost at least $2,000 for a 1br.
Personally I think the only really nice neighborhood in northern Manhattan is Hudson Heights and the rents around there are about $1,500 for a 1br. Don't expect to pay anything lower than this in Manhattan and not be in a ghetto.
Are you going for an undergrad degree and then an MBA or do you have a BA already? Are you from a small town without a lot of diversity? How much money will you have for rent and expenses?
NYC has a lot of universities and colleges, so in that sense it is student friendly. Washington Heights is in upper Manhattan and is still more affordable, but the area feels more like the Bronx.
Well yes, Berkeley College is small, but it's a real college that offers a bachelors degree. I know that much for sure because i've been researching the schools. Another school i have question about in Manhattan is Pace University. Any ideas about this school?
If you have to choose between Pace and Berkeley, choose Pace....
