I can take it or leave it. I thought it was ok but didn't understand why some people got so excited when they finally opened one in Queens. I like their salsas and dips but I wasn't impressed with meats and produce. But like any store, it probably varies by location.
I have a relative who buys TJ wine all the time. It's not the worst I've had considering it's around $4 a bottle.

Yeah that's my feeling about most of their items. They're OK, but not great, and I've run across some that were awful. However their prices aren't too bad for my neighborhood so I get some of my dairy, cereals, canned tuna, and some basic produce there. I just have to get there when they open or I can kiss 2 hours goodbye waiting on line- I HATE the union square location.
The trader Joe's in Chelsea on 6th Ave and 21st street is also nice to shop at if you avoid the rush hour shopping crowds
I worked right across the street from that one and man it's insane during the rush hour times. The lines around the corners of the store. That one is laid out nicely and it's easy to grab the things you need and book. Even with the long lines, they hustle people in and out pretty fast.
The one in Forest Hills is nuts as well. But in terms of cost, it's the best option. When I go there I get two huge bags of food for 50 dollars, as opposed to the Key Foods around the corner where I get two small plastic bags for 75 dollars sometimes. The produce is hit or miss but I'll take that over most of the supermarkets in this city.
trader joes food is so expensive and of dubious quality walmart has higher quality for lower price
TROLL!
I think Trader Joe's has better quality (and organic/natural) food then Wal-Mart. But you really can't compare the two. TJ's is made for people that don't mind buying TJ stuff. If you want labels, go to Wal-Mart and buy somewhat cheap. Costco is for people that want real deals.
Don't worry, you're not missing much lol..but the closest one to Queens or at least the south end of Queens is in Valley Stream.
Yeah I know walmarts are pretty ugly, stripped down, basic, and don't offer a wide brand variety. But I'd save a few bucks stocking up on canned soup and mayo I can't say I'd be against that. I wish they at least had a few around here.
