i really want to move to nyc and i've been applying to a lot of jobs there. the most i'll probably get offered is 70k - 80k for what i do. is that a decent enough income to survive comfortably if i were to live in, say, astoria? i'm not a big spender, but like most people who move to nyc, i do want to be able to have enough spending income for entertainment, recreation, etc.

Yes. It's enough.

What is your current annual salary -- are you sure that 70K is the standard entry-level salary in your field? I read in another thread that you are only 20 years old.
that is all great news, guys. thanks! this is also keeping in mind that i -will- want to regularly go into manhattan and such, right? i mean, i want to live in queens, but i plan to commute to manhattan pretty often.
i make 83k and live in astoria. i work in midtown tho.
with 83k, im looking to buy an apt in midtown east with a mortgage and maintenance of an apt of around 1500-1800/month.
been seeing apts with a realtor.
with that money, i have enough to buy a place, eat out pretty much everyday, and enjoy the weekends while putting some money into my 401k and saving some money as well.
whats your budget for apt shopping with 83k salary?
i can go up to like 2k/month (including utilites) but thats pushing it... im looking at somethign around 1,500 month (without utilities). basically something below 2k/month
