What do you say?

Is Little Italy going to be non-existent?

Are there going to be new neighborhoods?

Do you think Harlem will be "cleaned up" and more people with money will be moving up the streets?

Think the virtual east 96th line is going to be gone?

I think NYC will be "greener" in ten years. The push for sustainability is fierce. Green buildings, sustainable parks, future green spaces, etc It will be exciting to see. This is an interesting article (from 2006) about the city in 2016. The Future of New York City: A Vision of 2016 -- New York Magazine

I won't comment on any neighborhoods except for central Harlem b/c that's where I live. I foresee in ten years a cleaner, safer, more vibrant neighborhood, and I do not think it will be a "white" neighborhood. It will most definitely be more mixed than it is now, and I think that is a good thing. Many people on this forum like to claim that whites are moving in and destroying Harlem, but that is not what I see every day. I see hardworking upper middle class people of color who are able to afford the rising rents living here and I see more moving to Harlem in the next 10 years. I think Harlem will become a place where both white people and people of color live together. At least that is what I would hope for the neighborhood. I would also like to see some of the projects redone, and mixed incomes living together.

I agree, I think the area will be upper middle class, I guess is the way you say it, People above income levels of the middle class, but not super wealthy like other parts of Manhattan. I do think the middle class will be a small group by 2016. But I think that the upper-middle-class people living in Harlem will be a mix of people of color and white people, not just white people.

Good question: here is something I found online:

"While New York City’s median family income is $49,374 a year, the New York City leaders surveyed think that it actually takes $75,000-$135,000 annually for a family of four to have a middle-class standard of living in New York. For a single individual, the middle class range is $45,000 - $90,000.

Well, That's pretty easy to achieve.

In a way, I'm sort of glad that those will be gone in years.
