I have this belief that shelter pets are more grateful, more loving, and make better pets because they've been rescued. I just feel like they *know* what a horrible situation they were in and that you literally saved their life.

I totally agree. We have 3 dogs, 2 came from a breed rescue and the third from the "death list" (literally on her last night) at Animal Care and Control. She is by far the best dog we have ever had, it really seems like she knows how close she came living amongst the smell of death after days of being trapped in a "cell".

They DO know. They can smell the death and sickness everywhere and they pick up something from the pieces of garbage who dumped them in the first place.

"Pets on Death Row," everyone. One for dogs and one for cats. Please check them out - facebook.
If you cannot adopt or foster, you can contribute. Even tiny amounts make all of the difference. Or give a ride or some other assistance. Or even just spread the word.
