I think the reason why some people consider Washington Heights and Inwood ridiculously expensive is because although it is Manhattan,it is so far from midtown it might as well be The Bronx. You coud think of it The Bronx with Manhattan prices

I thought about Inwood when I was relocating from Brooklyn and looked pretty extensively at co ops there. What I found was that the prices are almost double simply because it is Manhattan. The Bronx neighborhood I moved to is just as nice as Inwood, just as green, with probably better shopping, etc at 1/2 the price. The actual distance from midtown is about the same and the subway time is only minimally longer.Inwood is roughly on the same parallel as Fordham Road which the middle of The Bronx.

Don't get me wrong,I like Inwood a lot, especially around Indian Road and Park Terrace, but count me as one of the one's who thinks it's ridiculously expensive simply because it happen to be in Manhattan.
