As a first time renter what are the best sites to use for finding a rental apartment? Besides the usual suspects, of course...

Craigslist, look for roommates. It'll be cheaper.

Craigslist is still the standard, but there are a lot of newer sites popping up, if you google around. Of course, the New York Times is still the most legit.

Meanwhile, I see that this question just re-surfaced, originally from Der Titan, so you can check out those answers.

I am planning a move within the next year and so far have joined Trulia. It seems pretty good although I have no totally delved in yet... /salary 40x of monthly rental and 3 months down...smh

I would say padmapper, but they just got burned by Craigslist so the site doesn't show any listings from craigslist anymore.
