I had to move out of my apartment today since my lease ended 7/31 and can't move into new place until tomorrow 8/1. The moving company said they could store my stuff overnight no problem. They mentioned a 3 hour delivery minimum - I thought this meant for the total job. Now they are saying it is 3.5 hour minimum for both days. Is this normal? What should I do? They were in and out of my apartment in 1 hour flat today (maybe an extra hour TOPS for travel back to storage unit?) all in all I can't see this total move being over 4 hours yet they are going to end up charging me for 7 hours of work - please help! Do you think this policy is normal? Or in my circumstance should the minimum be for the total job, not the day?

Thank you!

Are you a numnut or just short on money?

Your taking 2 days of the movers time!!! You get that, TWO DAYS!

3.5 for day 1 and 3.5 for day 2. Total 7 hours.

Even if you were misquoted and the minimum was 3, you're only paying for an extra hour.

So, what is the problem?

Day 2 the movers c/b earning, moving someone else, but they are moving you a SECOND time!!!

The real point is why didn't you just stay an extra day?/??

Normal or not I would think it depends only on your contract? Did you read whatever you signed? But I would guess that because it's tieing up their truck for two days it's expected that you'll pay for two days. If they try to charge for storage I might make a feeble attempt to argue that since you might be able to say it never needed to come off the truck, but that's probably unlikely to work either. I'm just trying to think of how it would be if I were running a moving business *shrug*

Did you ask the landlord if you could stay until 8/1? I don't feel like this would have been an issue. Did you read the mover's contract?

This.

Many landlords will give you the day.

When somebody else has your stuff, you're over a barrel if you don't pay. So pay up and be done with it.

sounds quite reasonable to me.

could be worse, and they could be asking you for a storage fee.
