Very ghetto neighborhood. Lambert Projects are a few blocks away.

It's free on Wednesdays? I thought it was just discounted in pricing ??

It's an absolutely exceptionally awesome and fun place to visit - I highly recommend it !!!! You will be so glad you went ...

They have a new baby giraffe, he was born at 100 pounds, and expected to grow up to 2600 pounds !!!!! What a big boy he will be !!!!

Well ... you don't have to pay to get in, but neither do thousands of others! Last Wednesday, it was packed!
A friend took the subway & met me there. I drove, and barely got into a lot. Parking was $14.
You still have to wait on line, even for a free ticket! The lines were long, took almost a half-hour!
If you want to see the gorillas & ride the monorail, etc., you have to pay $13. I upgraded inside the park.
On other days, the full package is $26/$29, and the zoo is presumably less crowded.

Jake,

I was all set to pack my gear for a trip on Wednesday, but your post made me rethhink the plan. It's been at least 10 years since my last trip.

(Do they take corporate on other days?)

To Young Traveller...DO go, it's a terrific zoo that must be seen at least ONCE. I have always gone in from the subway on the East end of the zoo (#2 or #5 train.) The walk has never scared me. But DON'T pick a 90+ day like we've been having the last two weeks.

I've been to the Bronx Zoo on more than one occasion, and (believe it or not), I've never been shot. Not even grazed! I suspect the odds might be in your favor.

Wearing a bullet proof vest is recommended. They actually have a sign at the entrance.
