I found an INCREDIBLE place to live near the Red Hook projects in Brooklyn. around w 9th and Henry. its about 1 block from the projects, you can see them from the corner... but that immediate area did not SEEM dangerous when I went to check it out. Kind of on the outside end of the projects.

What do you guys think? It would be my first time living in NYC from mostly Suburbia... not smart? I heard those PJs used to be horrible but are not so bad anymore

Until Smith-9th is re-opened, Red Hook is just a poor choice for transportation reasons. If you're interested in the area, try Gowanus or southern Carroll Gardens.

If you're used to hearing gun shots late at night, then I guess you should be fine. But that particular area you mention is very hood. I would reconsider otherwise.

IMMENSE Red Hook Houses (projects) is only a block away and there are WAY too many factories. Not a good combination.

A car on the street probably wouldn't live very long although parking looks like it's not to hard.

we live in red hook and love it here. we are closer to van brunt though. i have never felt unsafe in the area or walking by those projects (and for reference, i'm a short white girl we also have a car which has worked out well for us - always parking outside our apartment.

It really is up and coming. van Brunt is filled with young white folk.

I love it. maybe walking around the grounds of the pj's at night, since you dont live there might not be the greatest idea.

But I think Red Hook is pretty nice, gritty and funky, ecclectic.
