I live on the LES in Manhattan right now but I am looking to move to Brooklyn soon. What would you say about the Bedstuy area? I know it borders Bushwick. I know Bedstuy has high crime. I've walked around very late at night with my roommates around the Marcy and Myrtle stations and we were not bothered. It seems like there is an influx of hipsters there, despite the fact the it's still generally considered unsafe. I've looked on spot crime but my street seemed relatively fine. I wasn't too wary of the area at all. It didn't seem super "hood" to me. I'm really just trying to find a place where I will be fine minding my own business. I'm a small female living with three dudes. I was told Queens would be a safer area, specifically for me, but my roommates are obsessed with Brooklyn. I've tried to look for other places to live but they are just not in my price range, and I'm tight on time to search for another nice 2 br Brownstone that's 1600 a month.

Any input would be nice, and any other recommendations of affordable areas would be nice as well.

There are definitely worse parts of Brooklyn (and Bed-Stuy), but this isn't particularly safe. Then again, even in dangerous neighborhoods the odds are generally for and not against you. Have you been in the city for quite a while? Do you have basic street smarts and aren't just gawking on the phone or playing on it with your headphones on without paying attention to your surroundings? I think with some experience of living in the city, your chances are much better. Again, it is dicier, but it could work out alright.
