You dont think that minorities are worse off than the majority socioeconomically? Really? So native Americans, Blacks, Latinos are not worse off? Come on man......
If you THINK this, then your perception of reality is skewed. Just look around...
And so it is a liberal view to try and ensure equal playing field in the workplace for minorities?
So this is based purely on your personal experience. I work at a corporate job in NYC and I went to public school here from 3rd to 12th grade and then went to a NYC college. The only thing that can be said is that being from NYC doesn't give you any preference for these jobs but you have the same chance as anyone else who qualifies.
This has been my experience as well. At Baruch, the job fairs were PACKED with corporations looking to hire people. For career panels they also brought back successful alumni (many of whom were minorities) who are now in management and executive positions at major corporations.

Damn you beat me to it. Baruch is one of the best business schools here in the city and highly successful one too, and yes plenty of minorities do very well at baruch, city college and Hunter and manage to get in to corporate jobs here in the city.

They are worse off because of their own values, not because of white people...Indians (East Indians) and Asians are better off than white people...why is that?
Blacks and hispanics need to stop blaming others and take responsibility for themselves.
Instituting racist policies like "affirmative action" is not an appropriate "solution."
@PsychDoc - you're completely overlooking the reality of the horrific quality of schools that many blacks and hispanics attend, and the broken households that many of them grow up in. To give someone awful schooling for 12 years, with minimal parental support, and then to expect that person to be as successful as someone who grew up at a private school in Westchester County .... that's absurd.
paying off all your student loans in your lifetime is like winning the lotto,
so most people will stay behind the 8-ball no matter what they do in this
country. you might as well stay poor for all that bs and let the other man
break his head to keep his phony spot over everybody else. it's an illusory
position anyway.

Many white people in Appalachia grow up in worse conditions than what you described. "Affirmative Action" should be based on socioeconomic status, not race. The current "Affirmative Action" model is blatantly racist.
The good news is that we live in a country in which anyone who works hard can make it.

And broken households is the government's fault how? Parents need to take responsibility for raising their kids right. If your kid doesn't try hard in school, you need to supervise this kid more. If your kid is being held back by the sub par school in the neighborhood, you need to sacrifice something in your life to ensure your kid goes to a better school. What the government does with programs like affirmative action is really just a social experiment. Perhaps it works to correct some inbalances, perhaps it won't. But at the end of the day, as a parent, are you going to wait for some government social experiment to work for you or are you going to take a proactive role in shaping your kid's life?

Well said...some would rather play the "victim" role to the fullest.
^ then others are only good at giving orders instead of following them.
