I also took the Court Assistant Test yesterday 10/7/17 @ St, Johns University Queens. I agree the questions try to trick you. I tried to take it slow & reread the directions & paragraphs & multiple choice questions very carefully before I chose an answer. I read months back online somewhere in posts that the best book to study for this test was actually the Court Officers Test book which luckily I had from my daughter taking Court Officer Test in 2014. Some of the questions in that book ( Barrons book ) were similar format of this test so I had an idea what we would be doing on the test. The only thing about studying the book is that it repeatedly teaches you the strategy of how to answer them properly. That is the key to answering the questions, say the one choice is the fact of the paragraph nearly word to word from the paragraph. The other 3 choices are NOT at all what the paragraph actually said therefore that would make them the wrong answers. Book teached to stay only with the facts. After I had great confusion with one paragraph ( 208-A Booklet ) the patent question section I had wasted at least 5 minutes on that question section stupidly- ( the Court Officer Study book says to use no more than 2 minutes on a question skip & go back to it later so after wasting time & confusing myself I just stuck with the rule of study from the book- stick to the facts that's the answer.) So I think I overall did well though there were 2 questions I know I chose wrong answer. I'm hoping I passed anyway.
I took Court Assistant this past Saturday in Rochester. Like Dani K16, I got hung up on the patent question. I was tired by then and uncomfortable sitting at a kids cafeteria table...so I skipped ahead to legal terminology and came back later. I understood it better reading it 2nd time around. Also got hung up on a sentence in the mortgage foreclosure paragraph... whether required, demanded, requested or some other word to appear in court . I think i was overanalyzing or being too logical because i thgt any of those words could complete that sentence (I worked in mortgages for 10+ yrs).
The court webpage "exams" states, "Applicants are emailed Results Notices by Civil Service Administration generally seven to nine months after the exam date."
I thought the test was easy. Its weird they allow 3 hours and no calculator when state and local exams do allow calculators, scratch paper and give 2.5 hours more time. I think i did better than Sr Court Office in 2014. I got a 92.5 on that one.

All I kept thinking when I hit that set of questions was, "You can't tell me that if I had to do something like this in the course of my daily work that I wouldn't have access to Excel and/or a calculator."
