One of my favorites is the Carnegie Club on West 56th street. It is a cigar lounge that features an 11 piece band on some nights, and other nights a solo trumpeter. It can be a little stuffy though, which may be a turn off for some people.
If they are still playing at the Sofia's Restaurant (it abuts the Hotel Edison in Times Square), Vince Viordano's Nighthawks Orchestra and the Manhattan Rhythm Rhythm Kings play every Monday night. They are not really a big band sound, but mostly 1920s-1930s jazz.
They may still have live bands at Swing 46 in the theatre district. A friend of mine has a swing / hip-hop band and they would play there pretty often.
Maybe dance, mostly just to get the feel of 30's 40's and 50's music. Like a transport back in time to that era. I will check out all the ones you guys posted. Especially the Great Gatsby one.
