I am looking for an apartment through March 31, 2013 - so about 7 +/- months. Does anyone know of any rental companies with flexible lease terms? I did find that Avalon Bay has buildings the are flexible, but haven't been able to find others. I'm checking condos as well and have had some luck there. Any suggestions?

There's a place up my way that has my curiosity peaked. It's called the MARMARA and it looks like a luxury condo-rental type thing but they call it a hotel.
The website shows apartment-rentals up to 3 bedrooms furnished?

It on Second Avenue in the low 90's.

Let me see if I can get the website:

okay, here it is:
Apartment Hotel New York | The Marmara Manhattan

(They call it an apartment-hotel. It is lovely but it's right on the Second Avenue construction...maybe that will lower prices?)

Thanks. I am going to check that out. And it looks like Archstone might be another possibility.

Unfortunately the Marmara is about $4,700 a month, which is above my budget.

Yeah. Around here you pay big for a little convenience. You want a low price you're gonna have to sacrifice a few luxuries.

I found a condo in Midtown East in a lux doorman building for 2,300 short-term furnished. I'll probably take that but just wanted to see some other options.

That was a studio. For that price it would be cheaper to rent a place for a full year and just move out early. Doubt they would go down under $3K.

Maybe when I come back to NY after b-school I can afford it!

I guess I can stop recommending the joint.

Have you tried AirBNB.com? There are probably some longer term deals. I KNOW you can get cheaper but the digs might not be up to your standard.
Worth a look.
