It's not hate; it's curiosity. If someone says something to me about a Brooklyn accent, my standard reply is, "Accent? What accent? I don't have an accent--you do!"

I HATE transplants that dare call people "bridge and tunnel" and sneer at them in disgust. However, if they are here to see the REAL New York and realize that Manhattan does not compromise the whole city, then I welcome them with open arms.

Yeah, this. These types have no idea.

They're generally boring yet supremely self-centered and narcissistic.

This sounds like a comment from someone who was picking on you, didn't like you for some reason, or wanted to try to prove how much better they are than you.

I suspect the comment could have consisted of any kind of insult -- like your clothes being ugly, your nose too big, your job not cool enough, your neighborhood not hip, etc. This person probably just chose the first insult he/she could think of.

I don't hate anybody unless they hate me.

Sounds more like transplant vs. transplant hate to me.

As a native NY'er, I think fellow native NY'ers are a-holes. I love nice midwestern tranplants a lot more. At worse they are passive-aggressive, unlike rude a-hole natives.

Not really. As a native, the other natives I've met over the years are actually very chill and easier to get along with. Somehow i also become friends with natives easily.

As for the OP. I really have nothing against transplants or midwesterners...all my co-workers are from the West Coast or Mid west. My only bad experience was with this group of recent midwestern transplants a few years ago that I found to be rude and self-absorbed...ya know, the pretentious hipster type. After living here for a few years, I'm sure they've mellowed out and have become more chill.
