It just comes down to people interpreting stats in their own favor, consistent with their own biases. Thus, if you're white and you are racist against black people and you see a stat saying 99% of crime type X is committed by black suspects, then you attribute that to "black people".

However, if the same person then reads that 99% of crime type Y is committed by white suspects, then he attributes that to the criminal subclass of white people, and not to white people in general. And so it goes on.

I cant speak for others but on the taxi discussion I said that a black guy dressed professionally shouldnt have a problem getting a cab as compared to one dressed as like thug. See the difference?
