Perhaps we could have a 'pizza rating' thread? I have my pit stops but I don't recall names.
I eat a lot of pizza because my job has me running around town all week. My pet peeve: dried up, overheated, overcooked...like a roofing shingle. I'm very selective about what pizza I'll eat.

I often buy an entire pie when I order in because I like it fresh, half it it ends up sitting in my fridge. Luckily a lot of places will do personal or small pizzas now.

Hmm will have to check this place out, it's in my hood.
I stand by L&B Spumoni Gardens in Bensonhurst. The place has a line all summer long.
Otherwise Pizza Den on 18th Ave & 86th St in Bensonhurst is pretty good, although at times can be a bit on the greasy side.

Joe's on Carmine is a classic. It's certainly not going to make you think pizza has been reinvented, but it's good when you need to satisfy a pizza craving. The best pizza in New York is L'asso, though, but it's artisinal.

I agree the overall qualities of NYC pizza is overrated, a lot of the pizza are
kind of just average here. The problem here is the OP seem to just have a
different version of what pizza should be like in his own view, anything not
fitting his version is not great pizza and is crap compare to Brazilian Pizza.
I know the first word out of his post is "No offense", well... in that case no
offense to the Brazilian, but from what the OP describe Brazilian pizza seem
to be worse than crap except eating it with fork and knife.

LOL.
"No offense, but..." is a sure sign that someone is about to say something offensive.

My gripe about pizza are those shops that have 50 already made pizzas (from yesterday, last week) with everything imaginable on them laying around COLD. (Prociutto and peanut butter, eh?)
And they pop a slice into an oven to reheat it.
And guess what...it tastes like REHEATED PIZZA...surprise. And several of theyse joints are called RAY'S but some are even the pricier overrated joints.
What I like about the $.99 shops is that each slice goes from an oven to person's mouth in SECONDS.
FRESH is a big plus.

NYC has a lot of everything including a lot of bad pizza. But on average there are much more good pizza places here compared to other parts of the country. I will say that compared to when I was a kid the quality of the average pizza joint in nyc has gone way down.

That's the key. Without fail, everyone who visits me from other areas of the country always comment on how good NY pizza is and how much variety we have when they only have crappy pizza and chain stores (Dominos, etc.) to choose from.
As for the OP's contentions about Brazilian pizza ... well that's Brazil, this is NY. It sounds interesting; I'd like to try it, but NY pizza is just a different animal, not "counterfeit" pizza.
