and you move anywhere else you are still from New York. No matter how long you live someplace else you are still from New York. The people elsewhere always consider you from New York and to be quite honest New York never leaves you. It is just part of who you are and you feel like an outsider anywhere else...Just thought i would share my experience...

I knew that! On the other hand, I'm not the kind of person who'd even attempt to deny that I'm a native New Yorker. Quite the contrary.
I find it funny that when I'm here people think I'm from someplace else because I don't have the typical accent. It only comes out when I'm pissed off.
However the minute I leave the city, people always ask me right away if I'm from NY. So I must have some kind of accent that I'm not aware of.
I'll always be from New York. However here's a question. Let's say I move to another state and stay there for a few years. Do I then say I am from there by way of NY, or originally from NY. Because so many people who move here are so quick to identify themselves as New Yorkers as if they're ashamed of their hometowns and where they originally came from.
^ just give them the short answer. that way you don't have to give your life story.
